RIT Capital Partners plc, formerly known as Rothschild Investment Trust, is a prominent British investment trust specializing in investments in quoted securities and special situations. Established in 1961, the company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is included in the FTSE 250 Index.

RIT Capital Partners traces its origins to the earlier Rothschild Investment Trust, initially associated with the family bank, N. M. Rothschild & Sons. Lord Jacob Rothschild joined the bank in 1959, contributing significantly to its growth. By 1971, he became Chairman of Rothschild Investment Trust, then valued at £5 million. In 1980, he departed from the bank to focus on developing the trust, which was subsequently renamed RIT. Lord Jacob Rothschild chaired RIT Capital Partners from 1988 until 2019. Following his departure from NM Rothschild & Sons in 1980, he co-founded several financial enterprises, including Global Asset Management and St James’s Place plc. He also served as Deputy Chairman of BskyB Plc until 2008. Beyond his financial career, Lord Rothschild has been involved in public service, arts, heritage, and philanthropy, chairing institutions such as The National Gallery, The National Heritage Memorial Fund, and The Heritage Lottery Fund. His contributions were recognized with the Order of Merit by Her Majesty the Queen in 2002, an honor limited to 24 recipients in the United Kingdom, awarded for exceptional service in arts, learning, literature, and science.
