Founded in 1991 by Charles Montanaro, Montanaro Asset Management set out with a distinct vision for SmallCap investing. The firm sees itself as an oasis in the cityscape, prioritizing a disciplined approach that tunes out market noise. Instead, Montanaro concentrates on identifying and investing in the highest quality businesses for long-term ownership.
Charles Montanaro, Chairman, and Fund Manager, graduated with an honors degree in Anthropology from Durham University in 1976. His career began in the industry for four years before transitioning to Merrill Lynch in 1980 as a private client broker in London. Moving to Dean Witter Reynolds in 1984 and Drexel Burnham Lambert in 1987 as Senior Vice President, he excelled as their top institutional broker in the UK, later joining their high-yield bond departments in 1989. In 1990, Charles joined MMG Patricof (now Apax Partners) as Director of Investment Banking, focusing on UK private and public smaller companies. Inspired by this experience, he founded Montanaro in August 1991, specializing in analyzing and investing in quoted European smaller companies for leading institutions. Over the years, he has successfully launched and managed multiple funds, building a robust track record. Additionally, Charles has served on the boards of two public smaller companies and was appointed a Director of Montanaro European Smaller Companies plc on January 12, 2012.
