Established in December 1994, Ellington Management Group (EMG) is a Connecticut-based hedge fund manager specializing in mortgage-backed securities (MBS), asset-backed securities (ABS), and equities markets. EMG employs diverse investment strategies, including MBS, ABS, corporate credit, agency and non-agency MBS derivatives, and systematic approaches. Mr. Michael Vranos is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ellington Management Group, established in December 1994 to leverage distressed conditions in the MBS derivatives market. Prior to founding Ellington, Mr. Vranos was the Senior Managing Director at Kidder Peabody, where he led the RMBS trading division. Under his leadership as head trader and senior manager, Kidder Peabody's MBS department emerged as a Wall Street leader in CMO underwriting from 1991 to 1993. Mr. Vranos began his career on Wall Street in 1983 after graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Harvard University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Boys and Girls Harbor, Hedge Funds Care, the Hopkins School, and the Waterside School. Additionally, he is an emeritus member of the Board of the Stamford Shelter for the Homeless.
