Soroban Capital Partners, led by Eric W. Mandelblatt, recently filed its 13F filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for the second quarter of 2014. The fund disclosed ownership of 48 equity positions, worth more than $17 billion. Over the quarter, Horseman acquired more than 20 new stocks and sold out nine holdings. Eric W. Mandelblatt founded New York based Soroban Capital in 2010. He previously was a partner and co-CEO of TPG -Axon Capital Management. It is an activist hedge fund that invests in both equity and debt markets.
In Williams Companies Inc. (NYSE:WMB), Soroban Capital’s stake remained unchanged over the quarter. However, the fund upped its exposure to CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS) and Autodesk Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK).
Soroban Capital holds 21 million shares of Williams Companies Inc. (NYSE:WMB). The market value of the holding amounts to $1.2 billion. Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Williams Companies Inc. (NYSE:WMB) is an energy infrastructure company in North America, and has a market cap of just over $44 million. Last week, the company announced that its board of directors approved a regular dividend of $0.56 on the company’s common stock, representing an increase of 32% from the previous quarterly dividend. Other hedge funds holding big stakes in the company include Keith Meister’s Corvex Capital and Robert Pitts’ Steadfast Capital Management, which own 41.68 million shares and 7.75 million shares, respectively.
Second most valuable holding is CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS), in which Soroban Capital upped its stake to 8.34 million shares, worth $518.2 million, from 4.98 million shares held previously. With a market cap of $31.6 billion, CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS) is engaged in creating and distributing industry-leading content across a variety of platforms to audiences around the world. Recently, the company announced the full redemption of its outstanding 8.875% senior notes due May 15, 2019.
In its recent 13F, Pentwater Capital Management, managed by Matthew Halbower, disclosed owning 16.20 million shares of CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS). Another hedge fund, Sean Cullinan’s Point State Capital reported holding 8.11 million shares of the company.
Third position is occupied by Autodesk Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK), which is engaged in designing different software for design professionals, engineers and architects, digital artists, students and hobbyists. Soroban Capital owns 9.15 million shares of the company, with a reported value of around $516 million. Previously, the fund held 7.19 million shares of the company.
In June, Autodesk Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) said that it acquired Stockholm-based Bitsquid AB, which is the creator of the Bitsquid game engine. Other largest shareholders of Autodesk Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) include Eminence Capital, led by Ricky Sandler, which holds nearly 6 million shares, and D E Shaw, run by David E. Shaw, which owns 2.77 million shares of the company.
