Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE)’s cyber-attack has been the talking point for some time now and hackers has revealed some sensitive information including the medical data on employees. The hackers also revealed few emails by Sony Pictures’ Amy Pascal, which were considered to be racist. Amy Pascal is dubbed as one of the most powerful women in Hollywood. Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw and Shannon Pettypiece talked on Bloomberg TV about the Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE)’s hack attack.
Shaw said that for the first time Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE)’s executive has gone from victim status to the ones who need to defend their actions. There was a lot of rage and comments about Pascal’s emails that hackers revealed, which Shaw feels that is very sensitive and concerns a lot of people. Lot of people question whether Pascal would lose her job at Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE) due to these revelations. Shaw said that Pascal was under fire almost a year ago, when Sony’s pictures weren’t doing well, but few people under her lost the jobs. But he thinks that this time around she is in middle of the storm and she might lost the job. Pascal keep insisting that CEO of Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE) is behind her and she would not resign.
Movie ‘The Interview’ has faced a lot of concerns from North Korea due to its content involving North Korea. There is a general opinion among people that North Korea might have hacked into Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE) due to this reason and is revealing the sensitive information bit by bit. Shaw pointed out that ‘The Interview’ had its premiere in LA on Thursday. He mentioned that another Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE) executives inbox is out there in public, which might reveal a bit more.
The cyber-attack hackers also revealed the medical information of Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE) employees. Pettypiece mentioned that nearly 34 employees health information were leaked, without the names and just date of birth, diseases and diagnosis details. She added that a separate document was released with names and date of births of employees, which might be cross referenced against the health information and employee could be tracked.
She also talked about some email leaks, which includes mail communication between employees and health insurance agency, with some detailed mails pointing to some diagnosis to child of a employee. She feels that more information might be revealed soon.
Will Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE) think about pulling back on “The Interview” movie, since that is what is causing all these problems for them?
“They have been very adamant that they will not make any changes to the release of that movie. The marketing campaign has proceeded as planned and I have spoken with some people at the Sony in the past week, they said that the marketing for future movies will continue as scheduled and I think what Sony is trying to do is act as nothing has happened, well behind the scenes obviously there are a lot of conversations about how to proceed and what they can do to ensure everyone’s safety,” Shaw said.
