Why Pony AI (PONY) and FTAI Aviation (FTAI) Are Surging Even as NVDA Slumps 3%

Pony AI (PONY) and FTAI Aviation (FTAI) are among today’s biggest winners, with Pony AI climbing 8% and FTAI rising 7%. Pony AI provides solutions that enable autonomous driving, while FTAI leases planes and provides offshore energy equipment.

Pony Advances After Disclosing Autonomous-Driving Projects

On Wednesday, China-based Pony AI noted that it intends to offer “driverless transportation services” at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). At the beginning of the initiative, the company will provide rides to employees of the airport. According to Pony, HKIA “is one of the world’s busiest airports by passenger and cargo volume.”

Also importantly, Pony disclosed that it is planning to provide robotaxis in “urban Hong Kong” at some point.

FTAI Stock Advances on Upgrade

FTAI is climbing after Myles Walton, an analyst at Wolfe Research, upgraded the shares to Buy from Hold. The analyst placed a $190 price target on FTAI.

Walton is bullish on the firm’s Strategic Capital Initiative. Under the project, institutional investors will buy narrowbody aircraft that are being leased by FTAI. The firm has already made a deal to sell 46 such aircraft to investors for $549 million.

FTAI will still carry out maintenance and repair work on the planes’ engines, enabling it to generate revenue from the aircraft.
