When John Pemberton died that same August, Candler performed some cursory mourning duties before further consolidating his ownership. Several deals consummated during that fateful year fell under much suspicion in later times — several critical signatures were found to be forged. However, Candler succeeded in his effort to wrest control of name, formula, and market share from his former partners. Four years later, Candler re-incorporated to raise additional funds for a company that now boasted a stated market value nearly 1- times the size of the 1888 original. From then on, there would be little to stand in Coke’s way.
