With most of those electronics being shipped overseas and sold in foreign markets, a Sony focused purely on electronic goods would benefit from weakness in the yen.

Hope or hyperinflation?

Buying Japanese stocks has been a great trade in recent months, and it could continue if Japan has finally hit on the right policy prescription. At the same time, Japan’s indebtedness and its demographic trends have left some credentialed fund managers warning of a coming catastrophe.

No other market in 2012 has been as interesting as Japan’s — given what’s happening in the Island nation, it might stay that way for some time.
