As already revealed in our intro, fewer companies will be hiring full-time workers in 2014, which means that the percentage of people hired as part-time employees will increase. The main reason stated by employers is the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, which will force employers to start cutting back on expenses. As part-time workers don’t require health benefits, they will be the proffered employment option in 2014.
No. 5: Employers will focus on training talent, rather than discovering it

As companies face the inability to find qualified workers to fill their vacant position, most employers will resort to training their current staff or hire people without the required experience and subsequently train them. More than a quarter of employers have already started enrolling their staff in educational courses and paying for most of the associated costs.
No. 4: Companies will start prospecting high schools
In an attempt to establish a constant flow of job candidates, companies have started promoting careers in local high schools. More plan to follow this model in 2014. This trend clearly shows that, while until now, aspiring employees would be the ones going from company to company, companies have recently started to take a more active role in searching for candidates.
No. 3: Increase in freelancing activity

As more and more companies become reluctant when it comes to hiring full time employers, we will also note an increase in freelance activity. While the phenomenon has already increased exponentially over the years, we will see a continuation of this trend in 2014 as well.
No. 2: Shift in working demographics

As more and more Baby Boomers will continue to retire in 2014, we will observe a complete shift in worker demographics, with more graduates and entry-level workers taking their roles in various industries.
No. 1: Due to Obamacare, many employers will put off hiring
We’ve already shown how Obamacare will force employers to focus more on part-time workers as opposed to full-time employees. But for some employers, the enactment of the new health care act will lead to a complete postponing of all hiring. This trend will be observed all throughout 2014 and may even expand beyond it, according to how companies determine is best to dodge the series of new requirements.
