It actually prepares candidates for their service in the officer corps of the army, the navy, air force, coast guard or Marine Corps. 5. Missouri Military Academy
The Missouri Military Academy is without a doubt one of the top boarding schools in the Midwest, for boys only, with a long and rich history. It is located in Grand St, Mexico, United States. The school was founded in November 1889, by the citizens of Mexico. Besides being a boarding school, the MMA (short for Missouri Military Academy) offers a summer school and a summer leadership camp. The MMA accepts young men in grades 6-12. They are offered 9 Advanced Placement courses, several dual-credit courses and get the chance for a post-grad year. Tuition, room and board for the upcoming school year will be $34,700. Additional Fees come from participating in camps, activities, sports, and they vary from student to student. An interesting fact about the MMA students is that the Class of 2015 has earned approximately $5.7 million in scholarships and the year hasn’t even finished yet.
4. Massanutten Military Academy
The Massanutten Military Academy is a coeducational school. It is located in Woodstock, Virginia. It is similar in a lot of ways to the Missouri Academy; what places it in front of it is the fact that it is coeducational, as it was so since it was founded, in 1899. They accept boys and girls in grades 7-12 and offer one postgraduate year for the candidates. The tuition for the 2015/2016 school year is expected to stand at about $29,000 for boarding students and $9,000 for day students. These numbers apply to the US Citizen students only, with the tuition for International students standing at $31,500. One of the reasons it isn’t ranked higher on our list is because no financial aid is available to international students. Still it is more affordable than the school in Missouri, and that is why it is in 4th place.
3. Marine Military Academy
The Marine Military Academy stands in 3rd place with the tuition of $35,300, including the uniform fee. It is a private college-preparatory academy located in Harlingen, Texas. The boarding school accepts boys in grades 8-12 with one year of post-graduate study. Founded in 1965, it is considered to be a school with a superb educational environment which develops morally strong, ethical and educated young men. It has great sports programs, and one of the most amazing disciplines structures. Baseball, Basketball, Football, Tennis, Golf… you name the sport, they have it.

A private military school located in Camp Hill, Alabama, the Lyman Ward, is truly an astonishing place for boys in grades 6-12. It holds the runner-up spot mainly because it is a lot more affordable than most of the other academies in the country. It was named after its founder Dr. Lyman Ward. Although it was a coeducational academy, in its early years, these programs ended in the late 50s. The room board and tuition for the 2015/2016 year will be $17,895. A lot of students from Hargrave, or “tigers”, are known to have succeeded in their careers, establishing themselves as pro athletes and sportsmen. Enrichment courses, 14 camps, GPA improvement, leadership camps, there’s nothing more you need at a boarding school, and Hargrave has it all. They accept young men in grades 7-12, and the tuition for the upcoming school year is expected to be around $35,300, including the uniform fee.
