With around 50 cities around the world that have at least one billionaire, these are the top 25 cities with the most billionaires in the world. Earning money, especially in this economy, is not easy at all. If it were, over a billion people, or one person for every seven, would not be living in extreme poverty, defined as earning less than $1.25 per day. However, incredibly, there are thousands of individuals – who either through their own personal success, luck – inheritance or some other factor have managed to accumulate a fortune that they realistically cannot spend in their lifetime. Nearly one third haven’t been to college, though those who have generally went to one of 11 colleges most likely to make you a billionaire. We are of course talking about billionaires, or the 1% of the top 1% in the world.

This is not an exaggeration. In fact, it is a vast understatement, if anything. With a total of 2,325 billionaires in the world currently, they make up 0.00000032% of the world’s population. Yet, they hold a total net worth of around $7.3 trillion, which is greater than the GDP of most countries in the world. Even the world’s most powerful country, the United States of America, has a GDP of $16.77 trillion, which is just 2.2 times greater than the total net worth of all the billionaires.
However, these billionaires are not spread out in the world. They are extremely concentrated in a few parts of the world, and this disproportionate spread of wealth has resulted in only a few countries boasting most of the billionaires in this world. There are thousands of cities in the world, yet only 20 cities host 34% of the total billionaire population. Wealth-X, a company whose primary function is to analyze data regarding ultra high net worth individuals, carried out a census on all the billionaires currently in the world. We have used this census to rank the top 25 cities with the most billionaires in the world according to the total number of billionaires residing in the city. For some cities, the total number of billionaires living there are the same, which is why we have used the total net worth of the billionaires to calculate the ranking as well.
