In this article, we will discuss the top 20 countries wealthy people choose to live in and also analyze global trends in the distribution of wealth.

What Places do Wealthy People Choose to Live In?

Wealthy people typically settle in more developed countries such as Canada, Switzerland, Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom. These are some of the wealthiest countries by per capita net worth. In 2022, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, and the UK had a per capita net worth of around $369,577, $256,179, $685,226, and $302,783, respectively. The US, one of the largest economies in the world, had a per capita net worth of almost $551,347 in 2022. Overall, these countries have offered better wealth growth opportunities, personal security, and low crime rates over the years. Canada and Switzerland are among the countries with the lowest crime rates. According to Insider Monkey’s crime index score, Canada has a crime rate score of 2.49 and Switzerland has a crime rate score of 2.57.

Wealthy people, especially billionaires and ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs), have renewed interest in some of the world’s fastest-growing markets. For instance, billionaires and UHNWIs in China and India are increasing every year. As of 2024, 814 billionaires reside in China, the highest among any country, while India has the third most billionaires with a total of 271. India recorded the second highest increase in total billionaires from 2023, up by 84 in 2024. The US added 109 billionaires to the list in 2024, according to the Hurun Global Rich Report 2024. In addition, the total UHNWIs in China and India were 98,551 and 13,263 in 2023, as per the Wealth Report 2024 by Frank Knight. The UHNWIs in China and India are expected to grow to 144,897 and 19,908 by 2028, respectively.

Is the Asian Economy Attracting Wealthy People?

The increase in wealth in Asian countries has been driven by economic improvement across developing countries. According to the IMF’s regional outlook, Asia-Pacific is projected to have a growth rate of 4.5% in 2024, compared to the global growth outlook of 3.2%. Moreover, Mumbai is becoming a top location for billionaires in Asia. Mumbai has emerged as the third-largest city with the most billionaires in 2024 at 92, surpassing Beijing with 91 billionaires. New York continues to be the leading residential city for global billionaires with 119 residents in 2024. Asian cities including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and New Delhi are among the leading cities with the most number of billionaires in 2024. Shanghai has 87, Shenzhen has 84, Hong Kong has 65, and New Delhi has 57 billionaires. In the next decade, trillions of dollars are estimated to shift to the next generation in Asia, as per the Frank Knight Wealth Report. Almost 70,000 HNWIs from Asia are expected to pass on approximately $2.5 trillion in the next 10 years.

Wealthy People and the Green Agenda

The wealthy people are taking the green agenda seriously. Around 40% of UHNWIs are switching to EVs as part of the green agenda. Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) and Li Auto Inc. (NASDAQ:LI) are two of the largest EV producers in the world. Xiaomi Corporation (HKG:1810), the leading Chinese electronics manufacturer, has emerged as another large company in the EV space after the launch of its first model, the SU7 sedan. On May 15, Reuters reported that Xiaomi Corporation (HKG:1810) had sold over 7,000 units of its first model since its launch on March 28, 2024. Xiaomi Corporation (HKG:1810) expects to sell over 100,000 units in 2024.

Wealthy people are investing in the green agenda as two-thirds of UHNWIs are aiming to reduce their carbon footprint. Moreover, wealthy individuals globally are expected to rise by 28.1% during the five years from 2023 to 2028. With this context, let’s take a look at the top 20 countries wealthy people choose to live in.

Our Methodology

To compile or list the top 20 countries wealthy people choose to live in, we analyzed data from Hurun Global Rich List 2024. We shortlisted the top countries with the highest number of billionaires. We then collected the data of Ultra-High-Net-Worth Individuals (UHNWIs) for the shortlisted countries. The data for UHNWIs, as of 2023, was taken from the Wealth Report 2024 by Frank Knight. We have considered UHNWIs as wealthy individuals as they have a net worth equal to or more than $30 million. For the UHNWIs whose data was not available on Frank Knight’s wealth report, we took it from Credit Suisse’s Global Wealth Report 2023.

The list of top 20 countries wealthy people choose to live in is ranked in ascending order of the total number of wealthy people (total number of billionaires + total number of UHNWIs).

Note: We have excluded Israel from our list due to the ongoing conflicts in the region.

The $250 Trillion AI Hype is Real. A few years from now, you’ll probably wish you’d bought this stock.

When Jeff Bezos said that one breakthrough technology would shape Amazon’s destiny, even Wall Street’s biggest analysts were caught off guard.

Fast forward a year and Amazon’s new CEO Andy Jassy described generative AI as a “once-in-a-lifetime” technology that is already being used across Amazon to reinvent customer experiences.

At the 8th Future Investment Initiative conference, Elon Musk predicted that by 2040 there would be at least 10 billion humanoid robots, with each priced between $20,000 and $25,000.

Do the math. According to Musk, this technology could be worth $250 trillion by 2040.

Put another way, that’s roughly equal to:

  • 175 Teslas
  • 107 Amazons
  • 140 Metas
  • 84 Googles
  • 65 Microsofts
  • And 55 Nvidias

And here’s the wild part — this $250 trillion wave isn’t tied to one company, but to an entire ecosystem of AI innovators set to reshape the global economy.

It’s a leap so massive, it could reshape how businesses, governments, and consumers operate worldwide.

Even if that $250 trillion figure sounds ambitious, major firms like PwC and McKinsey still see AI unlocking multi-trillion-dollar potential.

How could anything be worth that much?

The answer lies in a breakthrough so powerful it’s redefining how humanity works, learns, and creates.

And this breakthrough has already set off a frenzy among hedge funds and Wall Street’s top investors.

What most investors don’t realize is that one under-owned company holds the key to this $250 trillion revolution.

In fact, Verge argues this company’s supercheap AI technology should concern rivals.

Before I reveal the details, let’s talk about how some of the richest people on the planet are positioning themselves.

  • Bill Gates sees artificial intelligence as the “biggest technological advance in my lifetime,” more transformative than the internet or personal computer, capable of improving healthcare, education, and addressing climate change.
  • Larry Ellison — through Oracle, is spending billions on Nvidia chips and partnering with Cohere to embed generative AI across Oracle’s cloud and apps.
  • Warren Buffett — not known for tech hype — says this breakthrough could have a ‘hugely beneficial social impact.

When billionaires from Silicon Valley to Wall Street line up behind the same idea — you know it’s worth paying attention to.

Even as we admire what Tesla, Nvidia, Alphabet, and Microsoft have built, we believe an even greater opportunity lies elsewhere…

But the real story isn’t Nvidia — it’s a much smaller company quietly improving the critical technology that makes this entire revolution possible.

And judging by what I’m hearing from both Silicon Valley insiders and Wall Street veterans…

This prediction might not be bold at all:
