Kansas is ranked 10 among the top 10 states with the cheapest gasoline prices. The national average price of gas per gallon as outlined by the EIA report published on April 15, 2024, was $3.628. Compared to this, the price in Kansas is $0.358 less. Also, Kansas’s gasoline prices have significantly decreased from last year. In 2023, the gasoline prices in the state were $3.339, while the April 2024 rates stand at $3.27.
9. New Mexico
Price of Gas per Gallon (April 16 2024): $3.27
Located in the southern regions of the US, New Mexico is another US state with cheap gasoline. In New Mexico, the regular, mid-average, and premium prices of gasoline are $3.27, $3.646, and $3.939 respectively. According to the Energy Information Administration, in 2022, New Mexico was the US’s second-largest crude oil-producing state, following Texas. It also accounted for more than 13% of the US total crude oil production.
8. South Carolina

7. Alabama

Ranked 6th, Texas gas prices have dropped from $3.364 in 2023 to $3.23 in 2024, making the state one of the cheapest in terms of gas in the US. Texas produces more crude oil than any other state in the US, and houses four US Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) crude oil storage sites.
5. Oklahoma

Entering the top 5 states of the US with the cheapest gasoline prices, the gas prices in Oklahoma are $0.398 cheaper than the national average. Also, the average price of diesel in Oklahoma is $3.597, while premium gasoline prices stand at $3.851 as of writing this article. According to the US Energy Information Administration, in 2022, Oklahoma produced about 152 million barrels of crude oil and was responsible for about 3.5% of the US total annual crude oil production.
4. Arkansas
Price of Gas per Gallon (April 16 2024): $3.20
As of April 2024, the average prices of premium, mid-average, and regular gasoline in Arkansas are $3.968, $3.582, and $3.20 respectively. Compared to the US national average, the regular gasoline price is $0.428 less expensive in Arkansas. The state also has 0.1% of the US’s crude oil reserves and two oil refineries with a combined capacity of processing almost 91,000 barrels of crude oil daily.
3. Louisiana

In April 2024, the price has dropped all the way to $3.18. 2. Mississippi

Mississippi, the state that accounts for 0.3% of the country’s crude oil production and total proved oil reserves, offers the second-cheapest gasoline in the US. As of writing this article, the prices of regular, mid-average, and premium gasoline in the state stand at $3.103, $3.496, and $3.852 respectively.

Topping the list, Colorado is the cheapest US state in terms of gasoline prices per gallon as of April 2024. According to the US Energy Information Administration, Colorado accounts for about 4% of the total US crude oil production, which makes it the 5th largest natural crude oil-producing state. As of writing this article, the state’s gasoline prices are about $0.57 less than the national average and have also dropped over the course of a year. For context, in 2023, Colorado’s per-gallon gas prices averaged $3.579.
