1. Charlie Hebdo

The French satirical weekly magazine wasn’t exactly a name someone outside the country would know, but somehow, now, at the end of 2015, it’s a name everyone has heard. Terrorism is to blame for this too, after followers attacked the newsroom on January 7.

Two brothers who apparently belonged to Al-Qaeda made their way into the magazine’s headquarters and opened fire, killing 11 people and injuring just as many. They managed to run away but were tracked down by the police. The situation ended with a shoot-out between the terrorists and the police which the two brothers never made it out alive of.

Unfortunately, this was just the start for a year that’s been full of violence, making it to the first position within the top 10 most googled news stories in 2015.
