5. Paris
While Paris is always a great city and should be in the world’s top online searches for its sheer beauty and historical value, this year, Paris has been in the news for very sad reasons. Back in January, the Charlie Hebdo newsroom was the scene of a mass shooting. Two brothers, Saïd and Chérif Kouachi armed themselves with assault rifles and other weapons and killed 11 people and injured another 11 within the building, only to take their anger on others upon fleeing the scene. They belonged to Islamist terrorist group Al-Qaeda and were upset with various drawings published by the magazine.
Then, in November, Paris was once more the target of terrorist attacks, this time with 6 big targets, including the Stade de France and the Bataclan theater. 130 people have died at the hands of 7 attackers who were part of the terrorist group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
