The Richest People in the World for 2013

For the 27th time, Forbes has released its list of the richest people in the world. For 2013, there are many familiar names in the top 10.

For 2013, there are 210 new billionaires on the list. While this is a big number, it is important to note that 60 who were on the list last year have dropped off.

Carlos Slim Helu, $73 billion

At age 73, Helu finds himself at the top of the list for the fourth year in a row. This year, he is worth $4 billion more than last year.


Bill Gates, $67 billion

Bill Gates

Everybody knows Gates as top dog at Microsoft, however, he is also known as one of the top philanthropists in the world. After all, he has given away more than $28 billion over the years.


Amancio Ortega, $57 billion

Up $19.5 billion from last year, he is the biggest gainer on the list. He currently owns 60 percent of shares in Inditex.


Warren Buffett, $53.5 billion

What would this list be without Buffett? As the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, he knows a thing or two about investing.


Larry Ellison, $43 billion

Ellison has enough money to buy pretty much anything he wants, including the Hawaiian island of Lanai for $500 million. Despite his recent purchases, Ellison is still in the top five.


Charles Koch, $34 billion

As the CEO of Koch Industries, the 77 year old continues to accumulate wealth year after year.


David Koch, $34 billion

As the executive vice president of Koch Industries, David does just as well as big brother Charles.


Li Ka-shing, $31 billion

Ka-shing may not be at the top of the list, but he does own the distinction of being Asia’s richest person. He added roughly $5.5 billion to his fortune last year.


Liliane Bettencourt, $30 billion

Bettencourt may come in at ninth on the list in 2013, but she is the richest woman in the world. Along with her family, she owns more than 30 percent of L’Oreal, a company that was founded by her father.


Bernard Arnault, $29 billion

Arnault fell from number four to ten in the most recent rankings, but he is still doing just fine thanks to his luxury goods company LVMH.
