No. 6 The Wow! Signal
Extraterrestrial life is certainly one of the greatest mysteries of our universe. Throughout the course of the centuries, different signs of extraterrestrial life have been witnessed. One of these cases took place during the summer of 1977, when a volunteer for SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, called Jerry Ehman, received an international communication from an alien world, and managed to record it for the first time. Jerry Ehman was doing the routine scanning of radio waves from deep space, when he randomly came across a strange signal. This signal had the hallmarks of what might have been a message from some intelligent alien. It lasted for 72 seconds and it was loud and appeared to come from the remote constellation of Sagittarius 120 light-years away, near a star called Tau Sagittarii. The signal was named “Wow!” because on the original printout of the signal, Ehman wrote down this word.
The greatest unsolved mysteries remain to be uncovered. Witness them firsthand on the next pages.
No. 5 Phaistos Disc
The story of the Phaistos Disc is one of the most famous riddles of archaeology. This disc was discovered by an Italian archaeologist called Luigi Pernier, in 1908, during an expedition to the Minoan site of Phaistos. The disc is made of fired clay, and is engraved with very particular symbols, which are thought to be some strange and unknown form of hieroglyphics. Despite the numerous attempts from archaeologists, scientists and historians to crack the code, this disc’s origin hasn’t been figured out. It is thought to be from some time in the second millennium BC, and the hieroglyphs apparently resemble symbols of Linear A and Linear B, which are originally from ancient Crete. Nevertheless, the Linear A symbols haven’t been deciphered yet either.
No. 4 The Man from Taured
In July, 1954, a man arrived at the Tokyo airport in Japan. This man had a conventional Caucasian appearance, and arrived with a passport from a country called Taured. Everything looked genuine, except for the fact that the country Taured did not exist…at least not on our planet…
While being interrogated, the man said his country should be where the Principality of Andorra is, and was angry and confused by the fact that it didn’t appear on the map. This man had money from different European currencies, and his passport had been stamped by numerous airports, including even Tokyo’s. Moreover, he claimed to work for a company, and had documentation regarding this job position. But the company didn’t know him. The man was put under custody at a local hotel, watched over by two guards. Later, when the authorities went to the hotel room to check on him, he had disappeared. The room had no balcony. He was never seen again.
No. 3 The Crystal Skulls
A series of 13 Crystal Skulls were found in South America. The first one was found during an expedition, in 1881. These skulls have been in possession of various governments, entities and private collectors since, but their origin is yet unknown. Important researchers and specialists determined that these skulls were carved by the Mayans or the Aztecs. Others theorize that the skulls originated on the lost island of Atlantis. And of course, some claim aliens created the Skulls and sent them to earth. Tot his day, the origins of the Crystal Skulls have never been determined.
No. 2 The Patomskiy Crater
The Patomskiy Crater was discovered during an expedition to Siberia conducted by geologist Vadim Kolpakov, in 1949. Kolpakov traveled into almost uncharted territory. The local community of Yakut people, warned him not to go on, declaring the site an evil place, and that even animals avoided it. “Fire Eagle Nest” was the name given to the area by local people, who claimed that anyone getting too close would start feeling unwell, and some missing individuals had even been reported. Kolpakov continued his research, and found a giant crater, which resembled a volcano mouth. Kolpakov estimated the crater was around 250 years old. Some people hold it might have been formed by a meteorite; others think it was certainly a volcano; and many think it is the trace of a UFO. A new expedition in 2005 was conducted to get more answers. It couldn’t be finished because the leader of the expedition died of a heart attack just a few kilometers away from the site.
No. 1 Commandment Rock
This stone was discovered by archaeology professor Frank Hibbe in 1933, on the side of Hidden Mountain in New Mexico. The stone has a puzzling inscription, which some think is a version of the Ten Commandments, in a form of ‘Paleo-Hebrew’. The local community, apparently, had known about the existence of the stone for years. Specialists have stated that it outdates Columbus’ discovery of America. One theory is that the people from Israel or Phoenicia might have discovered the continent centuries before. Yet, many skeptics maintain the stone is fake, and that it’s a plot against the Catholic Church.
