For those of you who have seen our list of the 10 best places to visit in the USA in August, you might have noticed that most of them are only accessible by car. So, if you still don’t own a vehicle, it might just be time to purchase one!
The question remains: what car should I buy? Well, a smart move might just be following the crowd, so we decided to present you a list of the 10 best-selling cars in 2014. These might not be the best vehicles available on the market, but they certainly are in terms of price to quality. After all, consumers rarely purchase cars that are known for breaking down, consuming too much gas, or offering an overall horrible driving experience.
So, in order to see which are the 10 best-selling cars in 2014 in the U.S., we took a look at year-to-date sales and came up with some interesting conclusions. First of all, remember that we are talking about cars here, so not SUVs will show up in the following list. Also, some might be surprised that not many American brands made the cut!
Finally, here is the complete list of the 10 best-selling cars in 2014.
10. Hyundai Sonata
Selling over 106,000 vehicles so far this year, the Hyundai Sonata has made the top 10. The 4-door sedan is becoming increasing popular in the U.S. market, with sales rising steadily.
9. Hyundai Elantra
Unlike the Sonata, the Elantra has suffered a drop in sales this year of 10.9%. Nevertheless, the Elantra was sold over 112,000 times in 2014, and thus remains Hyundai’s most sold vehicle in the U.S.
8. Ford Focus
As the first car on our list manufacturer by an American brand, the Ford Focus was expected to perform rather well. However, a sharp drop in sales this year has brought the total amount of units delivered down to 120,956.
7. Chevrolet Cruze
The Detroit-based vehicle manufacturer Chevrolet has landed a hit with the Cruze, which has been sold over 145,000 times this year. The competition amongst U.S. automakers is fierce, making the 8.7% bump in sales in 2014 all the more enjoyable for Chevrolet.
6. Ford Fusion
Despite losing the 7th spot to Chevrolet, Ford is far from beat. In fact, the Ford Fusion has made up for ground lost by the Focus, selling 165,498 units so far in 2014. The guys at Chevrolet are not so happy after all!
5. Honda Civic
Starting off the top 5 is the Honda Civic, which reached a sales volume just above the 167,000 mark. The Japanese car manufacturer is surely glad to have beaten its American competitors, yet the Ford Fusion is still right on its heels and looking to reach the top 5.
4. Toyota Corolla
The Toyota Corolla sold almost 175,000 units so far in 2014, after sales rose by almost 10% compared to last year. So, yet another Japanese auto-maker has outperformed its U.S. counterpart in the sedan category.
3. Nissan Altima
Selling just a little more than a thousand cars more than the Toyota Corolla is the Nissan Altima, whose sales rose by 5.2% this year. This has landed the third vehicle manufacturer from Japan on our list, the third spot, yet just by a small margin.
2. Honda Accord
Honda has the second-best-selling car in 2014, with its Accord model reaching a total sales volume of over 185,000 units. Despite not reaching the first spot on our list, Honda can be quite proud of being responsible for two of the five most sold vehicles in the U.S.
1. Toyota Camry
Once again leaving not only its American rivals, but also its Japanese competitor Honda behind, is once again Toyota. The Camry has been sold over 225,500 times in 2014, thus outperforming its competitors by a long-shot. With sales up by 7.2% this year, Toyota has reason to brag, as it doesn’t seem the Camry will lose its spot as the most sold car in 2014.
