In the latest 13F, Sandell Asset Management, led by Tom Sandell, revealed its holdings in its equity portfolio, for the fourth quarter of last year. The value of the equity portfolio decreased to $497.34 million from $576.27 million in the previous quarter.
In this article we will take a quick look of the top five holdings of Sandell Asset Management, taking companies in which the fund holds the largest positions in terms of value. The first on the list is Bob Evans Farms Inc (NASDAQ:BOBE), a full service restaurant company along with producer and distributor for pork sausage product. The fund significantly increased its position to 1.15 million shares from 814,019 shares held at the end of the third quarter. The value of the holding surged to $58.16 million from $46.62 million.
Earlier in January 14, Sandell Asset Management had filed a complaint with the SEC, against Bob Evans Farms Inc (NASDAQ:BOBE), the fund had questioned the intentions of the management.
The next on the list is Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:CPWR) a software company, which provides solutions, which helps programs to run faster on customer’s PC. Sandell revealed holding a $54.03 million stake, up from $46.2 million at the end of the third quarter. The current position amasses 4.82 million shares, up from 4.13 million shares held at the end of September.
Last month, Paul Singer‘s Eliott Management, entered into an agreement with Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:CPWR), wherein the fund gained the rights to nominate two new independent directors to the company’s board.
On the third spot is Life Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:LIFE), a global life science company, which enables researchers to accelerate scientific exploration. The fund significantly boosted its holding to 479,325 shares, from 445,825 shares held in the previous quarter. The value of the current holding is $36.33 million.
Another hedge fund, Glenview Capital, managed by Larry Robbins, held 4.25 shares of Life Technologies at the end of the third quarter.
Visteon Corp (NYSE:VC), a global supplier of climate, electronics and interior systems comes next on our list. Sandell’s Position position increased to 430,156 shares, from 397,346 shares held in the previous quarter. The value of the holding increased to $35.23 million, from $30.06 million in the previous quarter.
Solus Alternative Asset Management, led by Christopher Pucillo, held 2.08 million shares at the end of the third quarter and is the largest shareholder out of all the hedge funds we track.
Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX) comes in as the fifth most valuable holding in Sandell Asset Management’s equity portfolio. The fund also raised the stake to 182,716 shares, from around 89,000 shares, while the value of the holding surged to $32.42 million, from $16.34 million at the end of the previous quarter.
Last month, Stephen Smith, the CEO and President of Equinix, sold 6,681 shares and now holds 25,877 shares of Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX).
