BlackBerry 10 Smartphone: Research In Motion – Not Many Want (Or Know Anything About) Its New Phone

BlackBerry 10 Smartphone: Despite the fact that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry is doing its best to regain market share in the smartphone space, an area in which it once dominated, it appears that many have no idea of what the company has to offer.

The company has gone to extremes as of late, hoping that more people will take note. For instance, we published this article yesterday: Research In Motion Ltd (BBRY): Can Alicia Keys Bring a ‘Grammy’ to the Company?

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)Using celebrities to bring a brand to life is not a new concept. However, Keys is doing more than talking about Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry on a few commercials. She is the company’s new CCO.

With all this being said, Research In Motion/BlackBerry has to be devastated by a report, published by research firm MKM Partners, that a large number of people don’t even know that its new operating system, BlackBerry 10, has been launched to the public.

VentureBeat.com takes a closer look at this problem, adding the following:

“According to the poll, eighty-three percent of the 1,500 Americans asked said that they were not aware that BlackBerry 10 had launched. Eighty three percent.  Perhaps just as worrying: Only six percent of people said they intended to make their next phone a BlackBerry.”

Let’s break that down into two separate parts.

First and foremost, despite the fact that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry has been pushing its new operating system, many have yet to take notice.

Do you remember this piece we published last month: BlackBerry Fiscal 2013 Results

Here is a brief excerpt:

“At this point, you may be wondering what the company has in store to get things back on track. The “Outlook” section of the release talks about the future, including the fact that the company plans to increase “its marketing investment in the first quarter of fiscal 2014 in support of the global launch of BlackBerry 10.”

As you can see, the company is spending more money right now on marketing to ensure the success of its global launch of Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s BlackBerry 10. Things don’t seem to be going as planned.

Just as troublesome is the fact that only six percent of those surveyed have intentions to buy a BlackBerry the next time around. This is a very low number for a company that has a lot of ground to make up.

It’s not that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry is neglecting its new operating system or not trying, however, the results don’t seem to be adding up.
