Research in Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has been getting in the headlines much more since its new BlackBerry 10 operating system reached store shelves in the U.S. in the last couple of weeks. The new OS has gotten its share of positive reviews, though domestic sales are modest. But it is clear that there has been some positive momentum building for the company with this new system, which the company desperately needs to have some level of success in order to stay viable in the smartphone and overall mobile market.
Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) has done a lot to make sure its BlackBerry World app store is stocked with as many apps as possible and is continually adding to it. But have you checked out the store lately and found your favorite apps available? The number of apps is reportedly easily in the six figures, which makes it pretty robust for a brand-new OS, so those favorite apps just might be there for you, or they could even me already pre-installed on the Z10 smartphone. Convenient, eh?
But what about those “must-have” or “gotta-have” apps? The website N4BB, dedicated to all things BlackBerry from Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY), posted a piece regarding what it considers several must-have apps for the BlackBerry 10 operating system – apps that are available, but are not pre-installed like Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB), Twitter and others. We have to realize that this is an opinion, but the author does present a helpful list of 10 apps that BB10 users should make sure they put on their smartphones. The apps aren’t rated as the 10 best, but instead are categorized by social, news, messaging and others that don’t fit neatly into any of these categories.

We’d like to provide, for you as a public service, a visual tour of the 10 apps that N4BB believes should be on your Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) handset, if they’re not there already. These are not included in any particular order – except maybe alphabetical. Check these out and if you agree, get on your Z10 and download them, for crying out loud!
1. BeWeather 10
A old favorite weather app for BlackBerry users, the new version for the BB10 operating system has a free version and a pro version that you pay for, so it’s advised to try it out before deciding whether to upgrade. For those who have been loyal to BlackBerry, this has been one of the more popular apps and has been known for its quality.
2. Hub++
You know about the Hub for BlackBerry – this takes your Hub to another level. You can customize your LED lights and sounds for alerts like e-mail messages, notifications and other items – and there are more features being added regularly.
3. IM+ Pro
This handy dandy little app costs five bucks, but if you chat with friends on a number of different messaging clients like Skype, Gtalk, Yahoo! Messenger or even Facebook Messenger, this app combines them all onto one contacts list and you can chat with all of them though the single app.
4. Neatly for Twitter
This app seems redundant since there is a native Twitter app pre-installed, but the official Twitter app has some interface issues that some may not like. You could check this out as a possible Twitter client instead, with a nice interface and some features that the official Twitter app just does not have. Might make tweeting more fun for just three bucks.
5. News for BlackBerry
OK, so this might be a self-promotional app for the N4BB website and its cache of BlackBerry news, but if you are a fan of BlackBerry, this is the most comprehensive app for all of the BlackBerry news that comes out of Canada – or elsewhere.
6. Nobex Radio and Podcasts
This app could be an alternative to TuneIn (mentioned later in this list). Users can listen to as many as 16,000 radio stations and podcasts and can share them via social media like Facebook, Twitter or BlackBerry Messenger. There is also a feature where you can listen to music while you fall asleep, can help you find music videos on YouTube, plus other musically inclined features.
7. PicShop
This is a handy photo app that goes with your embedded camera. There are many ways to filter and manipulate your phoos and make them look even better than when you took them originally. I know. Weird, huh?
8. Stuff I Need
This is a handy checklist app. Don’t want to forget anything on your grocery list? Don’t’ want to forget to go to the grocery store? Want to remember your chores when you get home? If you can remember to put it down in your phone, this ap willhelp you organize and allows you to check off things as you do them so you don’t forget that you did them!
9. TuneIn Radio
TuneIn is a radio app that goes global. Users can listen to thousands of domestic and international radio stations, save them for listening later and even choose the language in which you want to listen.
10. WhatsApp
This last one is for those who have been on the International Space Station – or like me, doesn’t own a smartphone (because I choose to make phone calls on my phone. Old-fashioned, I know.) . This app allows users to connect with all family and friends , no matter what platform they use. If you are nto a bi BlackBerry Messenger fan or you are the only one you know with a BlackBerry, this app can be aogod alternative to nsure you keep track of everyone close to you. And you to them.
