Interested in MyGirlFund? Is it helping college girls pay tuition bills or is it just a glorified webcam site? Let’s check it out!
Ever since it was launched in 2008, MyGirlFund has been a source of a controversy. Advertised as a site where college girls can use their creativity to make some extra cash and helping them pay the tuition bills, it was quickly labeled by some as a glorified webcam site, just like a plethora of other similar semi-pornographic venues on the Internet.
But unlike other webcam sites, MGF seems to aim a bit higher than simply allowing girls to get naked in exchange for money. And, according to many experiences, they deliver. In an interview with Business Insider, a MyGirlFund model going by the moniker Lauraleigh said: “I have two guys that tell me they love me throughout the day. These are the people I can always count on and can talk to about anything. It’s hard to explain. One might say [it’s dishonest] to go along with it. I like to make people feel good and genuinely care for the ones I get close to. I’ll chat for hours, even on days they don’t contribute.” While the undisputed fact is that “contribute” is a euphemism for “paying”, the emotional component of relationships Lauraleigh has with her followers goes way beyond simple thrills easily found elsewhere on the web.
Business Insider accurately notes several key features of MGF routine. First, men give money to girls they have never met in person. Founder and CEO of MyGirlFund Brian Chesky puts it like this: “Guys send girls money whether it’s for content or simply to be a nice, generous guy. Some guys want to feel important to these girls … we’ve heard of them helping pay for things from tuition to speeding tickets.” Chesky earned his way to the Forbes list of America’s Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40 and was named an Ambassador of Global Entrepreneurship by President Obama in 2015. Clearly, his vision for MGF is much more than a glorified webcam site, but there’s no escaping the fact that the “content” he refers to is another euphemism, this time for pictures and videos girls put on the network, often very explicit in nature.
Another user, named “Jenny,” swore by MyGirlFund in an interview she gave to The Daily Beast. At first, she was skeptical. “Why would guys want to spend money to get to know me, have fun and flirt with me. But it only took a little while and I got addicted to it. I can tell you that MyGirlFund has been a blessing to me.” She financed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree through the site and is very happy with her situation, especially because she didn’t have to “get some part-time job at Walmart that would have barely covered the expenses of studying away from home.” If her testimony is any clue, working for MyGirlfund should be among the Highest Paying Part-Time Jobs for College Students.
It’s not all milk and honey, though. One of the chief complaints of MyGirlFund’s users are rather steep fees. The site charges its models up to 35 percent of everything they make. Users often feel that they aren’t getting their money worth in terms of service the MyGirlFund provides. Site’s administrators can be very protective of their site as well. Nothing is private on MyGirlFund and every message exchanged can and often is monitored, which may result in a ban, like this user on Amber Cutie forum discovered. He mentioned the word email in a message to one of the girls, and her account was immediately suspended. While their desire to keep their models (and, more importantly, the cash flow they generate) exclusive to MyGirlFund, administrators can be overzealous sometimes, resulting in what users see as unfair bans. In their defense, their privacy policy is pretty clear about forbidding any contact outside the site, which is, according to them, primarily done to protect the girls from any unwanted contact in real life.
Perhaps the greatest complaint about MyGirlFund is one business practice they share with almost every other social site on the web. Every piece of content users submit to the site is free for the site to use as they please, which means those raunchy videos can easily find their way to Pornhub and there’s nothing users can do about it.
During the course of the research for this article, we came across several sites claiming that MyGirlFund is a scam. This is a preposterous statement, and we discovered that only two types of sites claim this: ones looking to drive some traffic to their sites and the ones that are a direct competition to MyGirlFund. In both cases, scam accusations can be safely dismissed.
In the end, the answer to the question whether MyGirlFund is helping college girls pay tuition bills or is it just glorified webcam site depends on the person answering it. The elements of adult entertainment are a large part of MFG, but it can also be said that the site is just a symptom of ever-growing alienation of modern society, but in that case, we can’t deny the fact that it is satisfying an equally ever-growing need for company and human touch of its users. Yes, the relationship they have with girls on the site only exist in cyberspace, but perhaps that is the future of digital environment we live in today. We all have virtual friends we have online and have never met in person. Virtual girlfriends and boyfriends seem like the next logical step. After all, if no laws are broken (and for the record, they aren’t), dealings on MyGirlFund are nobody’s business but its models and users.
