Liquor is one of the most consumed products amongst adults, but which are the most expensive alcohol brands in the world? Between scotch, whiskey, vodka, rum, and tequila, the array of brands saturating the alcohol market cover almost every taste and level of income. However, in this list, we’ll be focusing on high end beverages that require you to drop a minimum of $10,000 per bottle.
Now, while we previously wrote about an article about the 10 drunkest countries in the world, it’s highly unlikely that the brands on this list were go-to choices. In fact, some of the liquors featured here are so expensive that owners may hold on to a bottle for over a decade, drinking a glass only on special occasions. So, let’s take a look at the most expensive alcohol brands in the world and how much damage they can do to our wallets.
10. Chivas Regal Royal Salute – 50 years old
Price: $10,000
With only 255 bottles in the world, this whiskey is one of the most exclusive in the world. It was originally created to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and the first man to conquer the Mount Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary was the first person to receive a bottle.
9. Macallan 1939 – 40 year old
Price: $10,125
This whiskey was distilled in 1939 as World War II was commencing and is one of Scotland’s proudest products. As part of the Fine and Rare series, the liquor was bottled after 40 years and features a unique sweet toffee and earthy peat smoke flavour.
8. Glenfarclas 1955 – 50 year old
Price: $10,878
Bottled in 2005, after 50 years of distilling, this whiskey is homage to the creator of the Glenfarclas Distillery, John Grant. And in spite of its high price, the company reported 110 sold bottles before the product was even released, making it a truly sought-after, high end liquor.
7. Dalmore 50 Year Old Decanter
Price: $11,000
The go-to whiskey amongst the richest families in the world, this pricey liquor appeared on the market in 1978 and gained its popularity through its meticulously shaped crystal decanters.
6. Kors Vodka 24k
Price: $24,500
This brand is known amongst celebrities and royals for being the all-time favourite quality vodka, which should come as no surprise given the bottles’ price. However, the George V limited edition is one of the most expensive vodkas on the market, due to its fine distillation process and handmade crystal bottle.
5. Legacy by Angostura
Price: $25,000
Amongst the most expensive alcohol brands in the world, Legacy by Angostura takes the crown for the rum section. With only 20 bottles produced in 2013 by Master Distiller John Georges, this limited edition was retrieved from the finest blends among 80,000 barrels. Furthermore, the bottle itself was designed by Asprey and features a sterling silver cap, covered by a handmade wooden, leather-bound case.
4. Dalmore 62 Single Highland Malt Scotch
Price: $58,000
The expensive price tag on this Scottish Malt Scotch is due mainly to its exclusiveness on the market, as merely a dozen bottles were produced in 1942. In fact, this liquor is so rare, that one buyer had to purchase it at an auction in Surrey in order to savour the world’s most expensive scotch.
3. Diva Vodka
Price: $1 million
Of course, we’ve saved the best for last and our top three most expensive alcohol brands in the world take the price-value relation to a whole other level. For millionaires only, Blackwood Distillers went full-throttle for its customers by using a diamond-based purification procedure that filters the vodka through the Swarovski Crystal diamonds featured on the inside of the bottle.
2. Tequila Ley .925 with Diamond Encrusted platinum Bottle
Price: $1.5 million
The only tequila on our list is undoubtedly distilled in the most impeccable manner, but its ludicrous price is due to the elaborate bottle fabrication. A platinum container, encrusted with diamonds, this rare industrial design is quite the spectacle.
1. Billionaire Vodka
Price: $3.7 million
The king of our expensive alcohol brand ranking is by far this ostentatious vodka. As the name states, you would likely have to be a billionaire – or delusional – to spend more money on vodka than on a house, but at least it won’t be for nothing. The bottle is encrusted with 3,000 diamonds, making it a somewhat worthwhile investment, but there are no records of this edition ever being sold. Maybe because no one was willing to pay the price?
