Dubbed “The Death Road”, the North Yungas links the Bolivian capital, La Paz, to Coroico, in the Amazon Region. Carved directly into the side of a mountain and with no guardrails to protect the vehicles, drivers courageous enough to take on this road have to be particularly confident of their skills. It is estimated that approximately 200 to 300 people are killed each year in car accidents somewhere along the 69 kilometers of road.
