SEMICON Taiwan 2013: Forums draw TSMC, Globalfoundries (DigiTimes)
A series of technology forums will be held at SEMICON Taiwan 2013, which takes palce from September 4-6, to discuss industry trends, challenges and technologies for future semiconductor processes. Globalfoundries plans to spend about US$4.5 billion in 2013 to boost production capacity, and has claimed that the foundry’s combined 2011-13 capex will top US$10 billion. Meanwhile, Globalfoundries has been aggressively vying for 28nm chip orders from major fabless IC firms, including Qualcomm and MediaTek. Industry watchers identify the foundry as the second-largest contract chipmaker in the 28nm sector.
