Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) created some buzz – albeit not all enthusiastically – when it revealed its new Xbox One gaming and home-entertainment console last month. While the gaming blogs had their fun scrutinizing and analyzing the box, the reveal was enough to start the rumor mill flowing about the games that would become available. You could almost see the gears churning in the minds of these gaming and tech blogs as they wrote about the features of this new console at the launch event and started almost fantasizing about what was possible for games and what games would utilize the features of Xbox One most effectively.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is like many other companies in that it likes secrets. The difference with Microsoft is, it can keep a secret if and when it wants to; we can’t always say that for some other companies like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) which seems content to not react when photos or information is leaked about new devices that the company wasn’t revealing for months. However, as the rumors started flying about the new stable of games that the Xbox One would support, Microsoft has not lifted as much as a fingernail to counter any of the talk.
In fact, it seems the company is taking a different approach when it comes to Xbox One – the company is now coming out and saying “we have a secret, and you will not know about it until we say it.” But knowing the rumor mill, can’t you imagine this thing going into overdrive over the weekend? Instead of tamping down the rumor mill, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) may actually be fanning the flames that could put the gaming blogosphere into overdrive this weekend while the speculation grows as to what this “secret” could possibly be.
When this happens, you can thank Phil Spencer of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), whose tweet that responded to a fan’s question about the E3 gaming conference agenda (the event starts Monday) has perhaps already been misconstrued and seems to be leading the gaming blogosphere into a tizzy. As the rumor mill has been spitting out some examples of games that should or may be introduced for the Xbox One, Microsoft has not confirmed or denied anything. But so what, right?
Spencer did go out of his way to make this tweet when talking about E3: “Definitely have an announce that nobody has guessed, let me know after the show if it was a surprise.”Just before he sent that, followers had thrown out possible game titles like Fable, Halo 2 HD and others.
But Spencer did say it was an “announce,” not specifically a game. Yet it seems that many are assuming that.
What game could possibly be so big that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) exec Phil Spencer would keep it under his hat? Could it be instead a gaming accessory that was not ready for the Xbox One reveal last month? Could it be a new feature that will roll out? What do you think?
