Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has been busy working on a new version of the competitor to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Siri using the research from an artificial intelligence project called “Einstein”, as reported on Reuters.
The company is working on making Apple’s Siri rival, Cortana, better but also available in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s phones and tablets as an app. Eric Horvitz, the MD of Microsoft’s research division, has noted that the technology “which can read and understand email, will play a central role in the next roll out of Cortana”. It is scheduled for release in autumn, which is when Windows 10 is likely to appear.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s personal assistant, Cortana has been on the Windows phones for a year and got its name from an artificial intelligence character in the popular game series “Halo”.
“We’re defining the competitive landscape… of who can provide the most supportive services that make life easier, keep track of things, that complement human memory in a way that helps us get things done,” said Eric Horvitz.

But, Microsoft believes that the work on speech recognition, search ad machine learning will transform the company’s digital assistant into the first intelligent “agent” that will be able to anticipate the user’s needs.
“The key to Cortana’s success will be knowing where a user is, what time it is, and what they are trying to do. Albert Einstein’s work on the relationship between space and time gave rise to Microsoft’s secret project name,” said Horvitz. “Einstein was brilliant about space and time. It’s using brilliance about space and time generally in our agents.”
The newest version of Cortana will be able to tell the mobile user when it has to leave for the airport days after the plane ticket was bought and a confirmation email has been sent to the user. It will also check the flight status and check for traffic conditions understanding where the user is using GPS.
