Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) makes itself more clear about a statement given earlier regarding the upgrading to Windows 10 by explaining that the users can still upgrade from a pirated version of Windows 7 or 8.1 but that won’t make it a legitimate version. A CNET article reported on the news and discussed about Microsoft Corporation’s clarification regarding Windows 10 upgrades for prior illegal versions.
“With Windows 10, although non-Genuine PCs may be able to upgrade to Windows 10, the upgrade will not change the genuine state of the license. If a device was considered non-genuine or mislicensed prior to the upgrade, that device will continue to be considered non-genuine or mislicensed after the upgrade,” Microsoft Corporation spokesperson said.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) gives an explanation about a statement made at the WinHec conference in China on Tuesday. Terry Myerson, Chief of Microsoft’s operating system, said that they are upgrading all qualified PCs to Windows 10 having genuine or non-genuine prior versions of Microsoft Windows. The statement was specifically for China where pirated softwares have been a major problem for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) but it was a good news for those people who run a non-genuine copy of Windows 7 or 8.1 and they assumed that an upgrade to Windows 10 would bring legitimacy as well, which is not going to happen.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has not encouraged the software piracy by any means at all, as the company’s spokesperson has explained the upgrade process to a tech news website Ars Technica, showing clearly that the version of Windows 10 will not illogically become licensed if users have upgraded from an illegal version.
If users will have a non-licensed version of Microsoft Windows, the Windows and their applications will still be able to function but users will receive frequent warnings about their copy of Windows being not genuine. Desktop of the windows, upgraded from pirated versions, will turn to black that could be reset but it will continue to turn black until the Windows is activated. Users would still receive critical security updates but they’ll be unable to get optional updates or other software for example Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Microsoft Security Essentials.
