META Platform’s (META) Movie Gen AI Could Change Video Editing Forever, Here’s How

Instagram’s head Adam Mosseri took to Instagram yesterday to boast a new tool that could revolutionize video editing in 2025. The tool in question is not yet launched, but it is powered by META’s Movie Gen AI model. It will help creators edit their videos without needing to learn any extensive video editing skills.

According to the Instagram head, users will be able to modify elements in their videos with a simple text prompt. A prompt like ‘change the color of my jacket to green’ or ‘add Ray Ban glasses to my face’ will add the desired elements to the video. This would eliminate the need for influencers to create expensive sets, buy costly equipment, and hire video editors.

The user-friendly interface and the ability to handle dynamic modifications while keeping the natural and realistic appearance of the video intact is indeed something not yet offered by any other tool. OpenAI’s Sora made headlines when it was launched and people were amazed by the level of detail contained in its videos. However, we know today that OpenAI never managed to live up to the hype and as the tool was used by the public, shortcomings started to become apparent.

It would come as a surprise if META’s tool had similar problems. Instagram is one of the most popular social media apps and the company will never want to introduce an imperfect tool or promise something it can’t deliver (unlike OpenAI which isn’t really bothered about reputation and monetization at the moment). We can therefore assume that once this tool is launched sometime next year, videos on Instagram (known as Reels) will look much different than they do today.

The announcement was made through an Instagram post in which Adam Mosseri played his own video, changing and modifying the contents on the go while speaking. The post has generated over 29,000 likes and judging by the public’s response, they can’t wait to get their hands on this new tool.

META is one of the few companies that have been able to monetize their AI tools, increasing their advertising revenues by implementing AI. Instagram is an ideal tool to add to this monetization and whenever this tool sees the light of day sometime next year, its impact on the company’s top line will be worth paying attention to.

META Platforms is 3rd on our latest list of the 31 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 235 hedge fund portfolios held META at the end of the third quarter which was 219 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of META as a leading investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns, and doing so within a shorter timeframe. If you are looking for an AI stock that is as promising as META but that trades at less than 5 times its earnings, check out our report about the cheapest AI stock.
