A federal judge ruled Monday that New York attorney Steven Donziger, who is being sued by Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) for fraud, is not entitled to damages over alleged misrepresentations. …Donziger, who represents the indigenous residents who sued Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) in Ecuador, filed counterclaims against the oil giant for attempted extortion and fraud. Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) moved to dismiss for failure to state a claim upon which relief may be granted. Kaplan, in his opinion, pointed to an April 15 report and recommendation in which Magistrate Judge James C. Francis IV recommended that Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX)’s motion be granted.

Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) agreed to buy Hess Corp. (NYSE:HES)’s Energy Marketing business for $731 million in cash as part of a plan to double profitability in North America within five years. …The company said in February its North American expansion drive would be achieved through small and large purchases. It teamed up with Qatar Petroleum to buy gas fields from Canada’s Suncor Energy Inc. (USA) (NYSE:SU) in April and also signed a 20-year contract with Cheniere Energy, Inc. (NYSEAMEX:LNG) to import the fuel from the U.S.
