8. United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL)

Number of Hedge Fund Holders In Q3 2024: 54

United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL) is one of the largest airlines in America. It’s one of the top-performing stocks of 2024, as the shares closed the year 141% higher. The firm’s share price performance has come on the back of several earnings beats that saw it benefit from strong travel demand in the summer season despite headwinds from Boeing’s production troubles. The strong financial performance also led United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL) to announce a $1.5 billion share buyback to further help the stock. Cramer commented on the firm in the context of the broader economy:

“Weak Euro, and don’t forget. You can’t put in more routes if you’re bankrupt. And Southwest is committed to not adding more capacity and Boeing of course is helping the cause of no capacity.

“Carl, I keep coming back to the difficulty you have if you’re a fund manager. Saying you know what, I’m going to take advantage of that UAL, United Airlines spike, the Delta spike, and because what’s happening with the ten year, I’m gonna go. They’re not going to go. What they’re going to say is I prefer slightly more, ten cent wage increase, then I do recession. Because they’re not re-calibrating on the [inaudible] stocks. What they’re re-calibrating is saying maybe the Fed doesn’t have to cut.”
