Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)‘s iPhone 7 is unquestionably a great smartphone. The iPhone 7 looks great and is reasonably splash proof. It has arguably one of the best security features in the industry. Due to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s rich clientele, the iPhone gets many of the newest apps first. On the account of the iPhone’s quality and brand value, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has grown into the most valuable company by market capitalization in the world.

As great as the iPhone 7 is, Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)‘s Google division has recently released Pixel, which gives the iPhone a ride for its money in many instances. Although the company has had its own line of phones, the Nexus for several years now, Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Google introduced the Pixel in October of last year. Unlike the Nexus, where other companies also have had some input on the manufacture and design, Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Google is doing the end-to-end design work for the Pixel. Given that Google has as talented of a workforce as Apple and arguably just as much financial firepower, the Pixel has garnered many thumbs ups from critics. If the Pixel becomes a hit, Google’s bottom line could grow and its stock could climb.

In terms of features, there are many similarities between the iPhone 7 and the Pixel. Both the iPhone and the Pixel have two different sizes. One is the normal size where the phone fits comfortably in one’s hands, and one size is for those customers who like bigger phones. Both phones also boost a fingerprint scanner and sleek designs. They each also cost around the same.

While there are many similarities between the two, there are also some noticeable differences.  Without further ado, let’s compare the two phones below and see some of Pixel’s selling points.

The Pixel has longer battery life

According to Google, the Pixel has a 2,770 mAh battery with up to 26 hours talk time and up to 13 hours of internet use time. In terms of the iPhone 7 battery, Apple’s flagship phone gets up to 14 hours of talk time on 3G and up to 12 hours of internet use on 3G.

The Pixel has a better camera

In terms of taking pictures/videos, the Pixel sports a front camera with 8 megapixels and a main camera with 12.3 megapixels. The iPhone 7 boosts a 7 megapixel front/facetime HD camera and a 12 megapixel main camera. Although some would argue the iPhone 7’s camera does better in certain conditions than the Pixel does, the Pixel is more superior in terms of specs alone.

The Pixel integrates better with the Google ecosystem/Android

For those people who use Gmail/YouTube/Google Docs everyday, the Pixel might be a better choice simply because Google integrates its apps with Android tighter than Apple does. The Pixel also has Google’s smart assistant versus Apple’s Siri.

Headphone Jack

One big feature that sets the Pixel apart from the iPhone is that the Pixel has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple’s iPhone 7 famously doesn’t have one and forces users to resort to airpods/airpod-like devices or adapters.

Faster Charging

The Pixel charges fast. According to Google, users get up to seven hours of use from only 15 minutes of charging. Given that time is valuable, less time spent charging means more time to do other things. The iPhone 7 generally lags the Pixel in terms of fast charging.

It’s Rarer

Given Apple’s enviable presence in the United States, iPhones aren’t exactly rare. Given that the Pixel just came out last year, not many people own the Pixel, at least not yet. For those Pixel owners, they stand out more.

Conclusion

Although new, the Pixel can give the iPhone 7 a run for its money in terms of many features. In some ways, it is actually superior than the iPhone and deserves consideration from consumers. In my opinion, it’s a great phone and could be just as good.
