Here are JDP Capital Management’s Views on Tesla (TSLA)

JDP Capital Management, an investment management company, released its fourth quarter 2024 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. 2024 proved to be an excellent year for the market and an even more impressive one for the fund. In the fourth quarter, the fund generated a gain of 10.4%, resulting in a total return of 47.9% for the year, net of fees for investors. In comparison, the S&P 500 recorded a 2.4% increase in the fourth quarter and a 25% rise for the entire year, assuming dividends were reinvested back into the index. In its fourth quarter 2024 investor letter, JDP Capital Management emphasized stocks such as Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA). Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) designs, develops, manufactures, leases, and sells electric vehicles, as well as energy generation and storage systems. The one-month return of Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) was -4.73%, and its shares gained 55.53% of their value over the last 52 weeks. On March 31, 2025, Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) stock closed at $259.16 per share with a market capitalization of $847.712 billion.

JDP Capital Management stated the following regarding Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) in its Q4 2024 investor letter:

“Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is new core position that I wrote about in 2024 Half Year Letter. The stock was up 115% in 2024. We benefited from the June 2024 timing of our purchase, buying after the stock had declined about 30% in the first part of the year.

We repurchased TSLA at a time when the market had [again] become overly bearish based on slowing vehicle orders despite the company having just achieved a breakthrough in Full Self Driving (FSD v12). If you haven’t had a chance to experience the most recent Full Self Driving software (FSD 13.3) I suggest you try it for yourself. If you’ve had a Tesla for a while, you know that the trajectory of FSD improvement has been nothing less than astounding.

It has become clearer to me that Tesla’s leadership position in the infrastructure layer underpinning mega-trends in robotics, smart vehicles and battery storage will unlock earnings growth that we can ride for years.
