Google Inc (GOOG), Microsoft Corporation (MSFT): Will Xbox 360 Survive in U.S.?

Mueller was not very positive about the chances that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Motorola Mobility would win the appeal against Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). He said that the battle has to do with the company needing to overcome two obstacles (as Mueller puts them, “procedural and substantive”) in order to win the import ban, and both obstacles seem pretty lofty.

But might this also be for Google’s sake, to find some way to justify its $12 billion price tag for the patent portfolio, which has not paid off much since the purchase? Do you think Google would  continue pursuing this if it wasn’t for the price tag and the past defeats, or do you think this case is being pursued simply on its own merits?
