Integration with Other Devices and Services

Both Google Home and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Echo Dot can easily be connected and integrated with other smart home devices and gadgets. But Amazon provides a wide array of options and flexibility here. Amazon Echo Dot can connect with Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Google Nest, Ecobee, SmartThings, Wink Hub, Insteon, Belkin WeMo, Philips Hue, Lifx and IFTTT. Google Home can only work with Nest, SmartThings, Philips Hue and IFTTT. Google is working on adding support for more smart home products and services

TV and Entertainment

With Google Home, you can control your TV if you have a Chromecast video streamer. You can also control any speaker connected to a Chromecast Audio streamer. You can couple different devices with Chromecast and ask Alphabet’s Google Home to play content by specifying the device on which you want to play it on. Amazon Echo Dot provides Fire TV integration. You can also turn on and off your TV, and change channels by asking Alexa, but you will need a Logitech Harmony setup for this. It is important to note than Chromecast streamer comes in at just $35, whereas the Logitech Harmony setup is much more costly.

Price and Verdict

This is where Amazon’s device beats Alphabet’s by a huge margin. Amazon Echo Dot costs just $50, while the price tag on Google Home reads a hefty $129. Given the number of features and flexibility, Amazon clearly provides more value for the money, even though we expect an explosive improvement in Google Home in the near future.
