What are the big announcements that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) wants to make at its F8 Developers Conference this year? According to Jon Fortt of CNBC, in what appears to have happened accidentally, Facebook Inc has sent out a message through its F8 App disclosing its three key announcements even before the start of the conference.
The alert which was sent to the users of Facebook Inc’s official F8 App revealed Facebook Inc’s plans regarding getting its developer’s team, Parse to work on IoT; for Facebook Inc’s messenger to be used as a platform for developers; and Facebook Inc’s plans regarding ‘teleportation station’.
“It actually made a slip there – F8 App for people who are going to the conference sent out a blast – news out of the conference which technically hasn’t been released yet. So, we know in broad strokes they are going to talk about the messenger platform – that’s Facebook messenger – last update we have got: they have got half a billion monthly active users. […] Also, Parse for Internet of Things – Parse is sort of Facebook’s tool for helping connect information that you might have about a user to their Facebook profile. So, this could mean things like weekends at retail stores. It could have to do with wearables being able to figure out who that user really is. Of course that’s important for advertisers. And, then something called teleportation station. There’s a question about what that might be. I have a feeling that might have to do with Oculus. Because Facebook has been talking about the fact that wearing an Oculus virtual reality headset makes you feel like you are somewhere else,” Fortt said.
The details of these announcements are not completely clear but we will soon find that out as Facebook Inc’s two-day-long F8 Developers Conference is scheduled to begin today. One thing which Fortt thinks is truly clear, is that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is trying its best to broaden its horizons. It is using its users’ information to make things easier for them. Fortt emphasized that Facebook Inc is allowing itself to become a broader communication channel than Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR).
In India, Facebook Inc’s WhatsApp is working with Police to allow people to make complaints through WhatsApp. Facebook Inc is becoming not only a person-to-person medium – but a government-to-person and person-to-government medium as well. Fortt said Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s WhatsApp’s penetration in India is very hig: 10% of all WhatsApp users are in India. Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has a lot to do to catch up in this area.
