Have you ever dreamed of zip lining across the Amazon rainforest? There’s some exciting news for you then, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Street View has just launched its rainforest project, making it possible for you without leaving your house, as reported on BBC News.
With the help of the environmental protection group Amazonas Sustainable Foundation, or FAS, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) successfully suspended the company’s cameras in the rainforest on zip lines for the first time.
This complex setup of cameras required the workers from FAS to find a place where they could string the line so that the Trekker, the device made by a camera mounted on an apparatus, wouldn’t bump into trunks or branches as it went by. The Amazonas Sustainable Foundation workers effectively found juts enough room for Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Trekker to make the trip across the zip line.
The Trekker was originally designed to be carried by hikers like a backpack while walking the rainforest’s trails. But FAS had another plan and decided to do it in zip lines which made Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) nervous at first said Karen Tuxen-Bettman, who oversees Google’s Street View partnerships.
“One of the things that I love about working at Google is that if a partner comes to us with a crazy idea, we will probably try it,” Tuxen-Bettman said.
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) developed the Trekker camera in 2012, it has been taken in other unusual journeys, such as travelling on a dog sled in the Canadian Arctic and scuba diving in the Galapagos to take underwater pictures.
In 2013, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) developed a campaign in which the company called upon adventurous people that wanted to travel wherever the cars, trolleys, bikes and snowmobiles can’t with the company’s Trekker as their backpack.
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) used the Trekker to capture the world’s tallest building on Street View, the Trekker was also responsible for capturing the Grand Canyon. It weighs around 40 pounds and it has 15 five-megapixel cameras, a hard drive for storage and two batteries that will last a day.
After nine month in the making, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) stitched together more than 50,000 still images in a 30-mile stretch of land alongside the Rio Negro river. This new view gives users panoramic views of forests, villages and shores. Google has a new project that its currently working on known as the “Sea View” project to show the Great Barrier Reef.
