BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) issued an update of its BBM software at the ongoing Mobile World Conference in Barcelona that is to be rolled out for Android and BlackBerry 10 devices. The iOS version is to follow suit. Privacy and control remain key with the latest upgrade especially when messaging according to a statement from the company as BBM PIN continues to be at the center of the experience.
BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has been expanding its services such as Messenger to other platforms having seen its worldwide phone market share dip. The company is now expanding BBM to reach popular mobile platforms of Android and iOS as a way of luring more users. Android Wear and Apple’s TouchID are some of the new additions that are to find their way into the upgraded version.
BBM already comes with a PIN that the company affirms is linked to users BlackBerry ID to allow for ease of adding new contacts. The PIN can be shared with specific people when adding new contacts while still guaranteeing the security of private information. For as little as $0.99 a month users will now be able to stay clear of sponsored ads as part of the new upgrade. The subscription essentially bars any ads from being directed to one’s news feed while also barring any sponsored invites from partners.
The new upgrade by BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) also allows users to make custom PIN that can be shared with all people connected to the platform. However, they have to follow certain guidelines. The pin has to be 6-8 characters long made of letters and numbers only, the PIN is also case sensitive and special characters cannot be used. The custom PIN subscription offer goes for $1.99.
Photos in groups is another front that BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has improved on and this time, users will be able to add photo’s in group chats to compliment on the ability of using stickers. BBM also takes advantage of iOS security features like TouchID that will allow users to password protect their BBM chats; users can, in this case, protect their conversations with a 4-digit passcode or fingerprint.
