The markets opened on Friday with some positive trends for several stocks. Despite the fact that among thousands of companies listed, it is hard to determine whether it is a good thing or not, looking through top gainers on April 5 morning still can reveal some useful information. Highlights of the top gainers on today’s morning include BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:BCRX), Exide Technologies (NASDAQ:XIDE) and NII Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:NIHD).
It has been a good week for BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:BCRX), the stock price surging for 29.41% since April 1. On Friday morning, company’s shares advanced by 23.48% to 1.63 by 10.29 am EDT. The explanation for this trend is very simple. On Monday, the company has received some positive news about its intravenous drug for flu treatment, peramivir. BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (BCRX) said on Monday that it received a letter from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) where it was explained how BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (BCRX) could file a New Drug Application (NDA) seeking regulatory approval for peramivir. The company also said that it received a “Stop-Work-Order” from the Department of Health and Human Services to stop working on peramivir under its U.S Government contract, except for certain activities. The notification, however, confirmed that the funding on peramivir development will be sustained on activities which are required to achieve immediate milestones.
Another gainer on today’s morning is Exide Technologies (NASDAQ:XIDE) which gained 14.60% to 1.57 by 10.30 am EDT. The company seems to be recovering from a drastic fall of nearly 50% on Thursday on the back of media reports according to which Exide Technologies (NASDAQ:XIDE) has failed to refinance to refinance $55.8 million in outstanding convertible notes. The recovering came after the analyst Craig Irwin said that the company will still manage to repay the notes out of available liquidity, and that “the statements were aggressive, premature, and inconsistent with company communications,” Streetinsider reported.
It has been a good morning for NII Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:NIHD) as well. The shares of the company grew by 13.33% to 5.15 by 10.30 am EDT. Yesterday, NII Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:NIHD) announced about its agreement to sell its Peruvian operations to Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones S.A. under a deal worth about $400 million. “The sale of Nextel Peru is an important step in the evolution of our business and aligns with our strategic goal of increasing value for stockholders through focused investments on our new next generation network deployments,” said Steve Shindler, NII Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:NIHD)’s chairman and interim chief executive officer.
The list is followed by financial company ORIX Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:IX), which advanced by 10.98% to 72.80 by 10.29 am EDT. Today, ORIX Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:IX) announced that it has decided to invest in Monolith Holdings Inc. Also, on Monday, Orix said that its environmental services business division, Orix Eco Services has merged with Funabashi Eco Services.
