iOS App Development: While there is no easy way to “get rich quick” Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and its App Store has put many people on the fast track to success.
As we discussed earlier today, the Apple App Store recently eclipsed 40 billion downloads. With so many people downloading apps, it only makes sense that there are developers out there making gobs of money.
Just how much money are developers making? Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, added this note to a recent press release issued by the company:
“It has been an incredible year for the iOS developer community. Developers have made over seven billion dollars on the App Store, and we continue to invest in providing them with the best ecosystem so they can create the most innovative apps in the world.”
Does that answer your questions? To date, developers have made over $7 billion dollars on the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store. That cannot be considered “small change” no matter who you are.

If that number is not incredible enough, take a closer look at how developer earnings have increased over the past year or so.
A Wall Street Journal article breaks things down for us:
“In March last year, Apple had paid out $4 billion to developers when it announced it had hit 25 billion downloads. In July 2011, it was at $2.5 billion.”
In other words, developers are continuing to make more and more money with each passing year. Not to mention the fact that the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store appears to be eclipsing download milestones at a faster rate.
Here are a few quotes by successful app developers from the Apple press release:
“The success of our game Temple Run in 2012 was nothing short of astonishing. We were simply looking to create a game that was fun and easy to play, but once it hit the App Store, the game took off. This past year, we saw more than 75 million downloads of Temple Run on iOS.” – Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios
“Our success on iOS has been incredible. We set off with the modest goal of bringing SketchBook to iPhone users as a way of introducing them to Autodesk. Fast forward three years, we now offer 20 apps to iOS users that have achieved more than 50 million downloads, and we continue to roll out new creativity and design tools that appeal to both professionals and consumers.” – Samir Hanna, vice president of Consumer Products for Autodesk
“Bottle Rocket Apps now employs over 100 full-time employees, dedicated to nothing but building great apps. In my 20 plus years in technology, I have never seen such a vibrant marketplace for software like the App Store.” – Calvin Carter, president of Bottle Rocket Apps
While it may take a lot of hard work and dedication to make it big on the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store, these numbers prove that the opportunity still exists.
