Apple Patents: Everybody is wondering what the future of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) looks like. Will the Cupertino based company come out with new devices that wow the world? Will its stock price bounce back sooner rather than later? The questions are nearly unlimited.
Consumers, however, focus solely on what the next Apple devices are going to entail. They want to learn more about design, features, price, and functionality among other details.
While Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is typically quiet when it comes to future product launches, there are ways to get a better idea of what the tech giant is thinking. One such method is to take a closer look at its patent applications.
Recently, there have been a couple of patents related to battery designs that are anything but the norm.
While this may not sound like a big deal to Apple enthusiasts, it may mean the company is designing devices that are not the typical size and shape.
Here are the two Apple patents as well as the abstract, explaining what it is all about:
Curved Battery Cells for Portable Electronic Devices
The disclosed embodiments relate to the manufacture of a battery cell. The battery cell includes a set of layers including a cathode with an active coating, a separator, and an anode with an active coating. The battery cell also includes a pouch enclosing the layers, wherein the pouch is flexible. The layers may be wound to create a jelly roll prior to sealing the layers in the flexible pouch. A curve may also be formed in the battery cell by applying a pressure of at least 0.13 kilogram-force (kgf) per square millimeter to the layers using a set of curved plates applying a temperature of about 85° C. to the layers.
Non-Rectangular Batteries for Portable Electronic Devices
The disclosed embodiments provide a battery cell. The battery cell includes a set of layers forming a non-rectangular shape, wherein the set of layers comprises a cathode with an active coating, a separator, and an anode with an active coating. The battery cell also includes a first conductive tab coupled to the cathode and a second conductive tab coupled to the anode. The layers are enclosed in a flexible pouch, and the first and second conductive tabs are extended through seals in the pouch to provide terminals for the battery cell. Furthermore, the non-rectangular shape is created by removing material from one or more of the layers.
As you can see, both of these Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) patents are related to batteries that are anything but the “traditional” shape. The first one talks about a curved battery while the second one discusses a design that is “non-rectangular.”
The battery is an essential part of any Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) device. If the company has any ideas of changing future designs, maybe to something less traditional, it will need these patents.
