iPad Web Traffic: Over the past few days, we have talked quite a bit about the tablet market. While Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may be top dog, there are other companies, including Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) that are trying to make up ground from behind.
Despite the fact that Apple does not hold 100 percent of tablet market share, the Cupertino based company is definitely dominating the competition.
The question remains: is there anything Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and the rest of the competition do about Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)? Try as they may, right now, it appears that they don’t know what to experiment with next.
Let’s look at a piece analyzing Apple iPad data from this Chitika Insight report.
In short, it shows that “the iPad saw its first month-over-month gain in Web traffic share since December, marking an end to the decline which began with the December holiday season. iPad users generated 81.9% of US and Canadian tablet Web traffic in March, a 1.4% basis points increase since February.”
As you can see, the Apple iPad is generating more than 80 percent of tablet web traffic throughout the United States and Canada. Here’s how that data was compiled for Apple and the rest of its peers:
“To determine the current distribution of Web usage among leading tablet devices at the conclusion of March 2013, Chitika Insights sampled tens of millions of U.S. and Canadian tablet ad impressions running through the Chitika Ad Network. The data used to compile current market share was drawn across the time range of March 15th to March 21th, 2013. The historical data in the charts below is drawn from Chitika Insights’ January and February tablet market share reports.”
With a number this big, you may be wondering which competitors are grabbing the rest of the pie, aside from Apple.
The same study goes on to show that Amazon Kindle Fire checks in second with 7.1 percent of tablet usage share. This device is followed by Samsung Galaxy tablets at 4.3 percent, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Nexus tablets at 1.7 percent, and other Android tablets at 1 percent.
What about the Microsoft Corporation Surface tablets? If you are a fan of this company and its tablets over Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s, you are going to be disappointed to find that its share checked in at 0.4 percent. This is a huge disappointment for a lineup of tablets that was supposed to cater to a variety of consumers.
All in all, if the numbers from this study are accurate, Apple has a comfortable lead in the tablet market. While Google and Microsoft, along with other competitors continue to push, they are not making up much ground.
