Apple Inc. (AAPL) In Talks with HBO For A Streaming Service On Apple TV

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is in talks with HBO over a potential deal that CNBC’s, Julia Boorstin, reports will see HBO’s streaming service being included in Apple TV platform. However, the monthly price should be a point of concern to consumers considering it will be $15 a month, nearly double what Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) currently charges.

It remains to be seen if Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will be successful in the amount of subscriptions it would wish to get with the new subscription offering; Netflix having suffered a great deal from increasing its subscription fees early last year.

“HBO and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) are in talks for Apple TV to be one of the launch partners for HBO’s new over the top streaming service, which is going to be called HBO Now. The two companies are talking about having HBO Now launch in April ahead of the launch of Game of Thrones, which is set for April 12,” said Mrs. Boorstin.

Nothing is official at the moment, and neither Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) nor Netflix have confirmed that they are in talks about a potential agreement although sources tell CNBC, a deal could be imminent. HBO first announced that it was getting web subscription service in October of 2014 as the company seeks to move outside the traditional pay TV bundle to address customers who wish to stream content.

“The idea will be for this direct to consumer service to cost about $15 which is more than Netflix charges. This is all according to sources nothing is official, but sources tell me this are the talks that are going on, and we expect to hear much more in the coming weeks ahead of that launch of game of thrones. We may also see HBO launch its direct to consumer service on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) TV platform,” said Mrs. Boorstin.

It also awaits to be seen how much HBO will be charging for its new service to cover costs without having to cannibalize its core business within the pay-tv bundle. The introduction of HBO service is to be a major victory for cord cutters and should encourage other content providers to introduce similar services.
