Apple Tablet Sales: The death of the PC. As a growing number of people continue to rely more on tablets and smart phones, just as many feel that the days of the PC are numbered. On one side of things, this would work out just fine for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) thanks to the popularity of its iPad and iPad mini. On the other side of things, the company would take a hit because it would not sell nearly as many Mac computers.
But is the PC market really on its last leg? Are things really as bad as people are predicting? While some feel that it is only a matter of time, others don’t agree. One such man is Ted Schadler, analyst for Forrester.
Before we get into what Schadler had to say about Apple and the rest of the industry, let’s take a closer look at some numbers related to tablet sales which include the performance of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).

Now that you know just how popular tablets have become, let’s get back to Schadler. Here is the blog post he recently published: Enough Already with the “Death of the PC Era” Garbage
As you can see, Schadler has some pretty strong thoughts about the PC market and why it is not going away anytime in the near future.

While there are sure to be people who will fight him on this, here is some solid data from the article that backs up his claim:
“Computers don’t go away, they just aren’t replaced as often.
There is no post-PC era. There’s only a multi-device, “right tool for the job” era.
The multi-device, single experience has become the competitive environment for Microsoft, Intel, AMD, Google, Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, ASUS, HTC, LG, and all the rest. Not all players will survive that shift.
Computers aren’t going away. They’ll just get better, more connected to things you care about, more agile in being the right tool or tools for the job, and more consistently integrated with other devices you own.”
As noted in his blog post, companies such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), as well as its competitors, are in the midst of adjusting to an environment in which multiple devices are relied upon. He also notes that not all “players will survive that shift.”
Even though Schadler brings up some good points, he cannot deny the numbers, such as those published by Gartner.
It will be interesting to see which direction both markets head in the near future, as well as how companies, including Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), combat the changes. For the sake of today’s children, maybe we should hope that tablets don’t take over.
