2. Gilles De Rais
In spite of being a celebrated captain of the French army who fought alongside Joan of Arc and thus became a war hero, this nobleman from the XV century drifted into a life of obscurity and sadism. He developed a taking for very young blue eyed boys, who he would at first pamper and offer an opulent meal, but when dinner was over the true nature of his intentions was revealed. As the child was locked in a room with Gilles and his accomplices, the growing fear excited the sick captain. He would hang them by ropes, abuse them sexually and psychologically by being violent, then taking them down pretending it would be okay, and immediately recurring in aggression. He would then kill them in various manners, and disposed of their bodies as he pleased, he would stab and mutilate them in the most heinous ways, always ending up covered in their blood. His servants (who would later testify against him), picked up whatever remains were left and burned them. However, being a deeply religious man, De Rais often felt conflicted after such acts and would pray compulsively and engage in acts of masochism in hope to rid himself of sin.
One of the most evil serial killers ever kept this going for a very long time, but in 1440 he abducted a cleric and was found out. Once accused of kidnaping the testimonies against him kept dropping, and he was sentenced to death by hanging and burning, as well as his servants.
