8. Maine

Idaho has been the largest potato producing state in the US since 1957, after it overtook Maine. The state has a very high potato yield owing to its optimal environmental conditions and decades-long cultivation history. As of 2023, Idaho accounts for nearly a third of US potato production, emphasizing Russet varieties.
