1. Oregon
The first of the US states that allow euthanasia was Oregon, where the Death by Dignity Act was passed in 1994, a whopping 14 years before any other state took initiative. The law has faced several challenges since its enactment, such as in 1997, when a ballot was held for repealing the law, but which ultimately failed. The state of Oregon was also issued a directive by the US Attorney General in 2001 to prevent the implementation of the Act, only for Oregon to sue and successfully implement it.
