8. Gouda

Yes, Gouda, just like the cheese! A fan of cheese are we? Well, not only will you be able to gorge yourself full of this delicious cheese, but you can wander around the old streets and get a glimpse of the past with timeworn, yet beautiful buildings that line the walkways. There are pretty canals snaking through the city, and the incredible stained glass windows of St. Janskerk.

7. Hoge Veluwe National Park

Here before you is 13,800 acres of nature reserve, an incredible sight to say the least. Complete with sculpture park, deer, bird watching, hiking, and of course, biking, this magical park is worth at least a day to chill out.

6. Kinderdijk

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a must see. When you think of the Netherlands, I’m sure windmills come to mind, and that’s exactly what you get to see here. These 18th-century windmills are in impeccable condition and are the largest surviving cluster of windmills in the whole country.

5. Valkenburg

This picturesque town is a romantic spot to take your loved one. There’s a hilltop castle, the country’s only one, and the other charming and magnificent gothic architecture studding the town. See the Velvet Caves, the  St. Nicolaaskerk Basilica, and get lost in the maze of passageways. Valkenburg is definitely a place to visit in Netherlands before you die!

4. Keukenhof

Located on the outer area of Lisse, is the typical flower associated with the Netherlands, the tulip. Also called the “Garden of Europe,” this gorgeous scene is the largest public display garden on earth. Sprawling over 70 acres, you will get to wander about this vibrant and exuberant flower garden containing tulips and many more.

3. Maastricht

This city will make you feel like you stepped out of the Netherlands for a minute. It’s not very Dutch, as you will see French-influenced architecture, as well as some Spanish and ancient Roman ruins strewn about. Surrounded by hills, full of history, churches, and an old square, this city has some fantastic scenes.

2. Wadden Islands

Want to go island hopping? It’s probably not the first activity you associate with the country, but it’s available, and totally worth it. There are fantastic beaches on Texel, and the Boschplaat Nature Reserve is teeming with birdlife. Visit the cluster of 50 islands for a variety of sights and activities.

No surprises here, the capital city, the most famous, and arguably the best spot of the country. There’s an abundant amount of museums and culture to soak in. The Anne Frank Museum, Van Gogh Museum, and the Rijksmuseum, are all must-sees.  A cruise along the famous canals, sightseeing at Grachtengordel, wandering the alleyways for boutiques, charming cafes, and chilling out at the quaint gardens are all options as well.
