So who is wondering what are the top travel destination for US citizens? Are you a US citizen yourself? Where you do like to go? Well, this list is arguably the most popular spots to find hoards of Americans flocking to for vacation. Americans certainly love to vacation, but considering their limited vacation time when compared with the rest of the world, they tend to stick to places that aren’t too far from home.

It’s no surprise that Mexico will be on the list. After all, there are many places in Mexico that are beautiful and safe to go to, and considering it’s America’s close neighbor, there are plenty of them visiting there year round.

Since the US has plenty of its own attractions, Americans are also drawn to places that offer a bit more history & culture that’s different from their own. With that said, they don’t want it too different and they often seek places that will have similar comfort to home. Beaches, architecture, food, and price of the destination are sure to play a  role in their choices of place to go.

What person wouldn’t want to bask under the sun on a tropical island? Or perhaps sip on some of the best wine and pasta in the world? Of course everyone is clamoring to see famous landmarks and make an appearance at some incredible ancient sights. There’s so much to see in this world, and you bet, Americans are dying to go them. So, before you read on, can you guess the top travel destination for US citizens?

7. Germany

Europe is a popular destination for Americans and they love Germany. Maybe because we love beer almost as much as them (I said almost!)? Or maybe it’s because the architecture is mindblowing. Medieval buildings and gothic structures are wondrous and I wish we could see more of that in the US. The history here is a main draw, the people, and the culture are great, too, period.

6. Italy

Italy is a popular destination for many people and for Americans, well, they are no different. The real pizza here, which certainly rivals New Yorkers and Chicagoans pizza, is an understood competition for sure. Other than the amazing food, the breathtaking vistas, beaches, and quaint villages are just a few reasons why we love it here. Oh, and wine! Lots and lots of wine.

5. France

Perhaps it’s the popularity? Or maybe it’s the need to see one of the world’s most famous structures, the Eiffel Tower? Or maybe it’s for the love of cheese… Whatever it is, France is a popular European destination for Americans and there’s no surprise why. The food is to die for, there are beaches, culture, history, and it’s similar enough to the USA, so you don’t feel like you’re missing out on your creature comforts.

Americans love a nice island, especially when it’s so close! Beaches for miles, gorgeous scenery, waterfalls, mountains, and more, and of course tons of history and architecture to admire. There are even a few other islands off the coast of the Dominican Republic that are accessible and certainly worth the boat ride out to.

3. U.K.

Yes, it rains here and yes, the Queen lives here, but there’s more to it than just that. With over 20 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, interesting and phenomenal architecture, tons of museums, and gorgeous countryside scenery, the UK is a smashing place to visit and Americans love it all! Except the exchange rate…

2. Canada

This massive country is impossible to encapsulate in a small paragraph, but that should speak volumes of its diversity and options for its visitors. The terrain changes as you move through its regions providing a scenic view and choices for activities. Winter, of course, hosts many snow sports, but summertime bring tons of festivals of all kinds. There’s the French region of Quebec and huge metropolitan cities throughout the country.

1. Mexico

Ancient ruins to explore and gorgeous beaches to bask under the sun in? It’s a hard choice, but Mexico has both, so just plan well and do them both! Surf in Oaxaca, snorkel in Cozumel and Cancun, and Whale watch in Zipolite. There’re plenty of opportunities for fun in the water here, but if you want to get historical, then visit Chichen Itza, Tulum, Monte Alban, and Palenque. This is just a taste of Mexico. Oh, speaking of, the food is incredible!
