The city is filled with a wide variety of ethnic groups who are now exercising their increasingly powerful political influence.
4. Long Beach
This is the city that is known for being the origins of motorcycle phenomenon, Jesse James, and famed rapper, Snoop Dogg. Long Beach also ranks highly in linguistic, racial and ethnic diversity. Besides having a very large Hispanic population, the city also has big Asian and African American communities. In addition, more than 25% of the residents of Long Beach were born outside America. Even though the city ranks highly in higher learning opportunities across the diverse communities, unfortunately 20% live below the nation’s poverty level.
3. Houston
Houston is one of the largest and ethnically diverse metropolitan areas in America. Pearland and Missouri suburbs deserve mention as they have been rising as good examples of diverse communities. African Americans are at 42%, Latinos are at 32% with Asians at 6%. You can now see African Americans living in conventionally Anglo communities.
2. Vallejo
In this highly diverse community, the fastest growing population is the Hispanic population, which now accounts for about 45% of the population. Native American and white populations are falling in this area. The Asian and multi-racial populations have also been increasing significantly in this area.
1. Los Angeles
Los Angeles is not only known for housing the popular Hollywood actors, as it is also boasts the biggest communities of people outside their native countries. Many different countries are represented in this city from Korea and Iran to El Salvador and Mexico among many others. There are numerous indications of this diversity, such as Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Little Armenia and Koreatown. The city also ranks well in educational diversity, but the only area that it lacks diversity is that the space between the poor and rich is quite wide.
